Btw... I've got some GREAT critical care quotes for you coming soon!  (granted my sense of humor has been somewhat tweaked - medicine does that to you)

Hi fellow busy Xanga-ites!

I could bore you with details of how busy I am, how I just passed my ECG class (whoot! 1 down 4 to go!), how sleep is somewhat a novelty, how much I LOVE every second of my time in the ER and how much I detest ever second of my management lab... But as I said, I won't bore you.

What I really wanted to share was something I learned this week that I thought I'd pass along.  Wednesday night after three brutally long days of lab and class I was attending our Church Ash Wednesday service and sitting there in the pew keeping my eyes open with toothpicks and wondering why in the world the people who run nursing school seem to have their hearts set on killing their students with stress and workload - when I saw her.  A woman in our congregation who has been battling cancer for over four years.  Although she is still in her 40s, she has been through multiple treatments of chemo and radiation and now has to use a walker.  Through it all she has ALWAYS been in church with a smile of joy on her face and a kind thought for others.  At that moment I was struck with how petty my stress and crazy schedule were in comparison to a daily battle for life.

Lesson learned - things might be crazy and you may be exausted and worn out - but look at how much you have been blessed with: health, family, ability to go to school and work and ever so much more!  How dare I complain!!!

While I still detest management lab - my attitude has undergone a drastic change.

Favorite quotes from psyc lecture...

"How can someone who eats so slowly punch so fast?"

"I don't stare at them... but I've got GREAT peripheral!"

"Hey, what can I say?  When you get old your sphincter just isn't what it used to be!"

"Either you control the milieu or the milieu controls you!"

"Don't get too close to a patient when they start talking quietly... they may be tempting you to get close so they can hit you."

"Do any of you know someone with a Schizoid personality disorder?  Then again... you probably wouldn't..."

"Psyc nurses are a little different... and I can say that because I am one."

Don't think I'll say my favorite one...

Tomorrow is my last day of exams!!! Whooo!  One semester to go baby!
